The Legend of Krakus Mound

According to legend, the Krakus Mound is named after the city’s founder, King Krakus, who defeated a fearsome dragon that once terrorized the area. To honour the king’s death, the inhabitants constructed a mound with sand and dirt, a mountain that would rule over the rest of the landscape, as King Krakus had.  This legend adds an air of mystery and intrigue to the site, whose actual origins and purpose have the been the subject of speculation among historians and archaeologists.
